School Council

Bolshaw School Council

Why do we have a School Council?

The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. It is the responsibility of each councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Who can be a member of the School’s Council?

We have an active School Council with a boy and girl representing their fellow pupils from Year 3 to Year 6. Each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected.

What do we do?

Members of the Council take part in discussions and votes and also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the council. Members meet regularly with Mrs Loxam.

What have we done so far?

35c09d700f7efc117f0a626d1dc972e0_keep-calm-and-stay-hydrated-kids-stay-hydrated-clipart_600-700This year, the School Council have decided that we would like to raise money for new water fountains in the bays. We want to promote the importance of drinking water regularly and keeping hydrated.

So far we have had a non-school uniform day where everybody came to school dressed up as elves and also ran a cupcake decorating stall at the Christmas Fair.

In the spring term we organised ‘Bolshaw Bake Off’. The theme was animals. Well done Harrison and Mrs Walker for winning.

Our final fundraising event of the year is a sponsored fun day. Children are currently being sponsored to take part in ten fun activities on the day, including a water run and human hoopla.

On the day children can also pay to take part in a game of Pie Face with a teacher. We hope we will raise enough to reach our goal.
