As you may be aware the National Curriculum in England was currently in a process of change a few years ago in 2014. It has been a two year transition period here at Bolshaw Primary School implementing the new curriculum and now all our classes are following the National Curriculum (2014), as set out by the Department of Education.
We have been very excited about the changes and our staff have been working hard over the last couple of years to ensure that the stages of transition to the new curriculum are well thought out and match the needs of our pupils in order to continue to provide them with outstanding educational experiences during their important primary school years.
The National Curriculum core subjects cover Mathematics, English, Science and the Foundation subjects which are; Art & Design, Design Technology, Computing (formerly known as ICT), Music, History, Geography and Physical Education.
Below are topic webs for each year group. These provide an overview to the key learning areas. Staff and children adapt these throughout the year to ensure activities interest them, are personal to the class and reflect our skills based curriculum.
Within the core subjects of English and Mathematics there has been an increased national expectation relating to what a child should attain by the end of each school year. Please read the documents below that we have created to explain the end of year age related expectations for Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 for English (Reading and Writing) and Maths.
