Curriculum Intent at Bolshaw
At the heart of our curriculum are our School Aims and School Values. Here at Bolshaw, we are committed to ensuring that our children become Successful Learners.Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors and develop Honesty, Empathy, Aspiration, Respect and Teamwork.
Our curriculum is designed to develop and foster a love of learning, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
We want everyone to be excited in their learning; for learning to be interactive, inspiring, and collaborative.
Our curriculum is coherent in its structure and caters for all learners; it is knowledge-rich as well as developing a wide range of skills.
We strive to develop growth-mindsets and can-do attitudes amongst pupils and our whole school community; to aspire, to achieve and to be the best that we can be.
At Bolshaw, we pride ourselves on taking a holistic approach; this helps children to find their identity, meaning, and purpose through connections to each other, to the community and to the natural world. We have our own wooded area, known as ‘Creature Camp,’ a pond, which enables outdoor learning and Forest School activities to take place.
Our school field is expansive, catering for a wide range of sports or sometimes just playing in the snow!
At Bolshaw Primary, curriculum subjects are taught separately so that they develop a true appreciation of the subject. Children analyse artefacts as historians and consult topographical maps as geographers.
Furthermore, a knowledge and skills progression map is provided for each subject area- this is our ‘road map: showing the destination and what will be taught.’ Inter-connectivity between subjects are made to enhance learning further.
